       A little girl who went fishing with her dad gave up after about 10 minutes of holding her pole.  "Dad, I'm quitting," she said.  "I'm not being waited on by any fish."

       The child's comments may have been echoed by the frustrated siciples in John 21:1-14 (NRSV).  The resurrected Christ stood on a beach and called to seven of His friends:  "You have no fish, have you?"

       They replied, "No."

       Jesus told His friends to cast their nets on the right side of the boat.  Then they caught so many fish that they couldn't lift them into the tboat.  They had to drag the net to shore to count their catch.

       Isn't it amazing what divine guidance can do for us?

                        Give me a sense of humor, Lord,

                        Give me the grace to see a joke,

                        To get some humor out of life,

                        And pass it on to other folk!
