Lucas Place Ministry News

 BACK TO SCHOOL PARTY

School days will be here soon and the Lucas Place Committee is planning its annual "Back to School Party."  The party will be on Thursday, August 7th from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.  Lucas Place students from kindergarten to high school will receive school supplies to help get their school year started.  This year our needs for supplies are a little different.  Two thirds of the students are middle school and high school.  This means we will need more college-lined loose notebook paper, more spiral bound notebooks, inexpensive calculators, pencils, folders and black ink pens.  The entire list of supplies needed can be found at the end of this article.  Please place the donations in the baskets by the multi-purpose room door.  Watch for the sales on supplies and shop then.  If you don't want to shop, cash donations can be made to the Lucas Place fund (please label them) and the committee will shop for you.

If you would like to help on August 7th, please see Ginny Kreke.  We have jobs for everyone and need lots of helping hands.  Thank you in advance for your support of this mission project.

 Supplies Needed:

   # 2 pencils          black ink pens
   Glue sticks          red ink pens
   Erasers               basic color markers
   Crayons              inexpensive calculators
   Rulers                 plastic school boxes
   Folders                wide-lined loose paper
   Kleenex               college-lined loose paper
   Elmer's glue         spiral notebooks (wide-lined)
   Colored pencils     spiral notebooks (college-lined)
Larger sized back packs (we need 36 backpacks)

STRENGTHENING FAMILIES PROGRAM

THANK YOU to those who participated in the Strengthening Families Program for the Lacas Place families this year.  We had an average of 25 people attend the classes each week.  We dealt with ice storms, flooded streets and apartments and "too beautiful" weather.  Members of our congregation donated food, helped serve food, cleaned up the kitchen and baysat with the younger children.  All of these jobs were done with the love and enthusiasm that St. Lucas members demonstrate.  The staff of Youth First of Evansville continues to be impressed with the dedication we at St. Lucas have to this program.  A big thanks to the following 28 members who participated:  Mary Newman, Anne Schleper, Ann Geisz, Don Mattingly, Nancy Mattingly, Mag Lindsey, Debbie Byers, Shirley Hicks, Lori Martin, Jane Brooks, Marian Major, Elaine Rose, Pauline Kuebler, Mary Anderson, Jane Baggett, Fred Barkmann, Mary K. Stoermer, Janet Baize, Pastor Lynn Martin, Esther Juncker, Colleen McClaskey, Ken Kreke, Ginny Kreke, Connie Sherlock, LaVonne Miller, Linda Wilkey, Cele Stockfleth, and Ray Baggett.
